Dear Friends and Supporters, July 16, 2007
We have just been in Fayetteville, TN. Remember the family camp that I invited ya’ll to?? Well, we were right there in the midst of it all!! Everyone had their tent set up ( Butch and I are borrowed a comfortable, cool camper from some folks in the church, Praise the Lord!!!). Sunday afternoon before we even got going, we had a real thunder buster that came fast and furious. Most of the people got soaked and a lot of their tents and belongings got wet too. But our spirits weren't dampened in the least!! We had some great services. Bro. Butch preached on the family. Folks were blessed and many decisions were made. We look forward to this camp each year. We have been to every camp since Heritage Baptist started having Family camp and we have seen it grow each year and the Lord work in many lives. It has been a great blessing to us as well. We get to visit with friends we have made in the past and also meet some new ones. It was a good week but it sure was hard work to have fun!!! When we left there, we headed to Pennsylvania where we have several special meetings, lots of our regular nursing homes and our big homecoming in Eurana Park, Weatherly, PA on July 21. Bro. Butch and I were born and raised in Weatherly so it really is our homecoming. We have a lot of friends and family there that we are looking forward to visiting with. We also have a lot of nursing homes and retirement centers that we visit in PA. We were at a senior center here one day and a lady came up to visit with Butch, She turned out to be the wife of a drum instructor from a drum and bugle corp he belonged to when he was a teenager. I also met the mother of a girlfriend Butch had from way back then. She proceeded to tell everyone in the center and especially the rest of our family all about their teenage years. This ministry can be very interesting!!! Butch always says, “You never know what a senior citizen will say.” Well you never know who you will meet either!!! We went to a nursing home in Hazleton, PA. This is the town I was born in. There in the home was one of my neighbors from when I was in school. I used to visit her home and was friends with her daughter and son. She now has the early stages of Alzheimer. At first she didn't recognize me but after I talked with her a while and reminisced she remembered some of the days gone bye. Seeing her like that makes me feel sad and realize that I am not getting any younger. She loved hearing the gospel music and even sang along with the familiar hymns. She talked about her family from when she was younger. It made me even more aware of the importance of taking the gospel to these folks and trying to reach them before they reach that stage in their lives. Once they get to that point their mental capacity diminishes and all we can do is try to comfort them with the fact that God cares about them. I thank the Lord for this ministry and pray that he continues to show us how and where we can be a blessing to all of our senior friends across the country. Till next time ------!! ..... Roxann Hinkle
